BACKGROUNDThe Malaysian Psychological Association (PSIMA) was established with the aim to provide a platform for its members to meet and interact while encouraging them to practice psychology in accordance to our ethical guidelines and professional code of conduct. Most of our members comprised of psychology educators from the public and private universities around the country, students and graduates of psychology, and those practicing various sub-disciplines of psychology in government, business, NGO and industry.
The Malaysian Psychological Association (PSIMA) was registered under the Society’s Act 1966 on 24th March, 1988.
The motto of the Association is, “Psychology for Well Being.”
The objectives of PSIMA are as follows:
- To unite members and encourage them to practise psychology.
- To deepen and expand the field of psychology through research, education, application and expansion of knowledge.
- To introduce the field of psychology as a branch of knowledge that functions for the well-being of humans and society.
Currently, PSIMA’s Council members comprise 13 people, namely:
- President
- President-Elect
- Ex-President
- Vice-President
- Honorary Secretary
- Assistant Honorary Secretary
- Honorary Treasurer
- Six Ordinary Members
The first Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1989, and this meeting is held once in two years. The Psychology Conference is normally held in conjunction with the AGM and the event has always been held with the cooperation of psychologists from the Malaysian universities. The venue for the AGM is normally held at the university campus that host the event.
PSIMA also publishes Jurnal Psikologi Malaysia which is issued annually.
